Susan Shepherd
When Susan is not teaching yoga, you will find her outside hiking, cycling, playing golf and laughing with friends. She enjoys travelling and bringing her camera and tripod along so that her online students can also join in on her adventures.
Introduction to Yoga with Susan
Susan began practicing yoga in 2008 while at a spa retreat with her family to celebrate her 50th birthday (you can do the math as to her current age). She was the only person in the free class, and the instructor took her through these amazing stretches where at the end of the class she felt like a new and younger person!
When she returned home, she immediately started taking several yoga classes a week. Not only did her 70-year-old teacher inspire her, but she felt better both physically and emotionally.
In 2014, after her husband passed away suddenly, her best friend convinced her to register with her for the 200-hour yoga teaching certificate program offered by Ajna Yoga in Victoria, B.C. Ajna is a provincial and federal-regulated yoga therapy studio that has been training yoga teachers since 2008. This 200-hour intensive program covered everything from postures, breathing techniques, anatomy and philosophy.
After teaching for two years at a gym and for residents of a condominium, Susan decided she wanted to learn more, so travelled to India in 2016 where she completed the 300-hour residential yoga teaching certificate program to qualify as a 500-hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher). Today, Susan has more than 1,000 hours of teaching time, and is a 500-hour E-RYT (Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher)
Susan enjoys sharing her yoga practice with beginner and intermediate students. She offers Hatha and Vinyasa slow flow classes as she believes MOTION helps our EMOTIONS. She encourages students to go at their own pace, and offers lots of options so that students can make the postures their own.
